In this regard, Deadlock echos what makes games like XCOM so addictive: the ships you manage from a strategic perspective are the same ones you command in combat, so decisions made in one phase have significant impacts on the other. The best surprise, though, is that it’s all of that and a good game.Deadlock is a cleverly designed space combat game layered on top of a challenging resource-management simulation. But Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock solves all of these issues single-handedly, with tactical-strategy gameplay featuring Cylons, Vipers, and Battlestars. Similarly, recent choices for space-based strategy games have been limited too, especially if you aren’t looking for a 4X experience.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.Despite all its acclaim, the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series that ran from 2004 to 2009 has been severely underrepresented when it comes to quality games. On that same thought are there DLC which I should absolutely avoid, or that aren't worth the money? So are there any DLCs which are a must? If so let me know, and if you could give a short reason as to why it's good or necessary I'd appreciate it. But on the other leaves me a bit wary as I'm not sure what to buy, or not buy considering the plethora of options and the attached price tags.

Lastly the DLC is pretty daunting there seems to be a lot of it. Is it worth that money just for the base game alone? That's not including DLCs which seem to number in the hundreds and don't appear to be included in any sort of Complete Edition, or if it is it's not that cheap. Is it just that, videos like a replay of the campaign, or am I missing something?īiggest thing, is it worth the large price tag? The base game by itself is 39.99, that's a substantial sum. What exactly is "Skirmish Mode"? Having watched YouTube videos of it I'm a bit confused as it just looks like a big cutscene in most of the videos.

Is this a Campaign or sort of Free Roam, and how does that work? If it is story based is there any incentive or ability to play endlessly? (I ask because the price tag gives me pause). Well as I asked above can you use the Big Battle Stars or is it just small ships and fighters? So I'm wondering is BSG more combat centered or is it about building empires? Some of the options for games that let you use capital ships are expansive but you have to work up to it, and it's more of a 'slog' and and endgame thing. I'm also really looking for a game that let's you use the Big Ships (from the start if possible) as I've had my fill of one man fighters. I'm more interested in combat and have little to no interest in "Building an Empire" as I have limited free time. So is the game intuitive and easy to understand? What's the learning curve like? And would you have any recommendations for a first timer? It feels like I, a new player would be overwhelmed by some of the options and I feel as though I've wandered into the Twilight Zone watching playthroughs of Sins of a Solar Empire or Elite Dangerous. Reading forums for games like Jupiter Incident, X4 Foundations, or BattleFleet Gothic left me confused and apprehensive. While the genre seems interesting I'm honestly overwhelmed by some of the aspects. I wanted to know if this game is a good one, and a good starting point for someone who has absolutely no experience with these sorts of games?

I've been looking for games that specifically let the player control massive battlecruisers in space combat, and I recognized BSG from the TV show which I loved. Is it more combat centered instead of "Empire Building"?Ĭan you use the bigger ships like the Battlestars early on?ĭoes it have replay value, or an endless campaign?Īnd which DLCs (if any) are worth buying?Īs the title says I'm brand new to any sort of ship combat strategy games. Is the interface intuitive and easy to understand? Is BSG Deadlock a good starting point for first time players in the genre who have no experience with this type of game? I'm going to put a bullet point list of my questions so that folks can jump in to the conversation where they want and more detailed questions below: I am also sorry if these questions have been asked before, but after flipping through Reddit threads and forums I can't find all of these together or any consensus on them. If it is in the wrong place do let me know as I'm new to this whole thing. Apologies if this doesn't belong here, I'm not sure where to post this.
